Dirty Girl!

No I’m not talking about a girl who is dirty, it’s a run!

I don’t know if anyone has heard about this run before.  It is a 5Km run that women and girls can do through the mud.  The first time they did it here in my hometown was last year and the turn out was amazing! All of the spots were filled within 3 hours of accepting applications. This year they allowed 12,000 teams and my work has entered three of those teams!  This goes along with one of my goals for the year about doing a 5km run.  So I am super excited! The run itself isn’t until August ( right in the middle of our prime building time on the property we bought but more on that closer to the spring).

This is a 5km run that goes on all over North America.

The money raised by the participants goes towards Cancer research.

This is a ladies only run.

It would be awesome to be able to get some donations online. This is my first time doing both the run and any type of fundraising that isn’t just hitting the pavement.  Donations can be taken up until August when the run is so there is lots of time.  I’m also trying to fund raise through Facebook, and of course hitting up my family and friends.

Ok, so doing the Dirty Girl run means that I need to start training. This is my motivation to step up the fitness and of course work on my running! To start I’m doing the 4 week running program. Once I can run without being winded I might do a couple other treadmill programs, does anyone have any suggestions?

What in the world is a Pomelo?

For those like me who before stumbling upon one in the grocery store had never heard of a pomelo I will answer that question.

Wikipedia says it is similar to a grapefruit, you can learn some more by clicking here.

I was actually pretty interested when we saw it because we have never seen one before and like to try new things when we do find them. So in the cart it went and we brought it home. It took a couple of days to work up the courage to give it a go, and learn how to break into this bad boy. I watched a couple videos on youtube but they were all pretty much the same.

Taste wise it is pretty similar to an orange or a grapefruit. It was a mild bitter taste, not bad at all. But it for sure wasn’t something I could have eaten on my own. Aaron and my brother needed to help me out.

In other news, I didn’t go to the gym this week. I’m bad I know but I have a whole bunch of excuses that sounded good at the time but have not lost their importance, So I’m not even going to go into it. It is a new week, and I’m going to do better this week I promise.

Hopefully I will be able to bust out my Zumba DVD’s and do something. I know it’s going to be busy this week. ( Math test on Monday for my upgrading class), working late on Tuesday and Thursday and all day Saturday. Gaah I’m not liking it just thinking of this week. On the upside I have been reading a bit more. I kind of got a late start to the reading this year because I was am trying to figure out a schedule that works for me. Usually I just work on the upgrading when I work at night but because I had to kick that up a notch and get something done so that I can get this done and over with, I spent an entire two weeks working on this stuff and didn’t even read. I think it has kind of worked itself out now though. I wish my gym schedule would do the same.  I need to get used to living out in the country again the commute is killing me. Once I get into the swing I hope that comes together too. I would like to make up some freezer meals though. I am done work at 430pm and get home by 5pm (depending if I have to do any running around after) and then start making dinner once I get home eat by 6pm and I can relax usually by 7pm.

I have one bit of news to share today.. We started to plan our garden.  I don’t know if I mentioned anything about it, but Aaron and I bought property this fall. Our plan is to try to get onto it as soon as possible because we are living with my parents right now and c’mon what almost 30 year old really wants to be living with their parents at this age.

I diverge.. We had to do some planning because right now we have an idea as to where we are going to be putting the house, but we needed to dray some stuff out just to make sure we knew approximate placement of everything so we didn’t put a garden where we were going to put our well and have to move it 3 months into the growing season.  I’m currently working on some visuals that I can put up. So for now that is it, next week I’ll give the big unveil of the future garden, and if I am extra ambitious maybe the layout of our yard!

One day I’m going to be able to run.

It has been a pretty good week, I have been to the gym twice.  I have started running however I’m not too good at it. I found this 4 week running program online and thought that I would give it a try.  I think I am going to start one of my Zumba DVD’s on Saturday, but more on that in the next post.

I really want to be able to run, and I want to participate in a few 5 KM runs this year so that I can eventually one day work my way up to a Marathon. Maybe I can participate one day in the Nova Scotia Pirate Run or even the one in Disney World.  If I do the one in Disney World I cant decide between the Princess run or the Tinkerbell run. I would actually love to be able to travel and do these half marathons all over the world. Does anyone know of any other fun runs that go on every year?

I really love going to the gym but because of where I am living getting there after work isn’t the easiest. So I have been going to the gym in the morning before work. Getting up at 5am kind of sucks. I am only able to work out for about an hour so that I can get into work for 8:30 am but getting up at 5am and then working is tough. So I am going to rack my brain to try to figure out if I can work it so that I go there straight after work then come home.  Maybe once we are in our own place again I can do some better meal planning and make up some slow cooker meals and some frozen ones so that I can spend less time cooking (even though I love it a lot).

I have yet to lose any weight, I actually gained a couple pounds but I am hoping that with the gym and work outs that I can start to lose again. I have been really good with staying on plan. Someone even brought cupcakes into work the other day and even though they looked delicious I didn’t have one. I am actually pretty proud of myself for that, cupcakes are one of my favourites.

I keep wanting to take pictures of my food but I keep forgetting until it is too late. Maybe that will be a day goal I set for myself in the future if I continue to forget to take some photos.   I think that is it for now.

A New Day

Hello All,

Today is a new day, not only in the normal sense of the word but also figuratively.  Today is January 1, 2014 it is a new year and a new start in what I want to become.

I have always struggled with my weight, always been the ‘bigger’ girl in the crowd. Part  Most of that is to do with my love of food, and reluctance to eat fewer carbs.

Last year I joined weight watchers and lost 17 lbs but after falling and getting a concussion I had to stop exercising so I kind of fell off of the wagon. So this year I want to get back on track, I have re-joined weight watchers and really want to reach my goal.

Speaking of goals I have a few  for 2014 that I want to talk about and I hope that the blog will keep me accountable.

Goals for 2014

1. Go to the Gym 3 times a week.    This may seem like something simple but because of the distance I am from my gym getting there is something of a challenge.  I work some pretty funny hours so I will have to go in the morning before work, and getting up at 5 am is never fun.  I LOVE Zumba but because of the distance and my schedule I am not going to be able to get there for the Zumba classes, so I have the DVD’s and I am so excited to start using them!

2. Read 20 books over the year.  I love to read but I always seem to put it aside for other things. However by setting a goal to read 20 books over the year it gives a bit of a push to stop setting aside something that I love. I also want to review the books that I read so that I can share a bit of that with you guys.

3. Post to my blog at least once per week.   I have a really bad habit of starting blogs with the best of intentions and then kind of falling off the face of the earth with them. It goes really well until something happens that I cant post and then I just stop completely.  I follow a few blogs that you can see on the site, and I aspire to be like these women.  Ideally I would eventually love to be able to do give aways and sample products for companies, or even be able to blog from home as a living so that I can quit my job.

4. Finish my upgrading      Even though I have already completed 2 degrees and have a decent paying job, I am unhappy and would like to go back to school.  So right now I an taking some high school classes to bring up my grades so that once I am able to go back to school I will get in without being put on a wait list. It is really important to me to finish these classes as quickly as possible to be able to hopefully attend in 2015

These are my goals, I have a few more but those will be discussed at a later date.  However now come the stats.  To be able to stay true to myself and what I am trying to accomplish with the weight loss and everything I have taken some pictures and measurements that I will update periodically.

At this point I’m not so much unhappy with being over weight, but I fell uncomfortable all the time and the feeling of being uncomfortable is what I am unhappy about. I don’t really have an ideal weight I just want to be able to move around freely without the pain and strain that I am currently feeling.  For those of you who aren’t over weight simple acts become more difficult, like getting up off the floor or walking up a set of stairs.  You become our of breath and your joints ache.
